    Our program

Doubling our positive impact on the environment and society

Leadership means showing the way—and in terms of sustainability action, we’ve done just that. For example, we’ve been using 100% renewable electricity in our operations since 2020.

With our Brighter Lives, Better World 2025 program, we are taking specific, measurable actions to double our positive impact on the environment and society, using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as our strategic compass.

    Designed to make a difference

Lighting consumes around 12% of all electricity globally. Rapid conversion to efficient LED lighting solutions is a key milestone to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, according to the International Energy Association (IEA).

Our lighting products, systems, and services are designed to help customers participate in this transition. With highly energy-efficient lamps and luminaires, lighting for circularity, connected systems that maximize performance and energy savings, and more, we have the lighting solutions to help you achieve your sustainability goals.

We are answering the UN’s urgent call to action

As the global lighting leader, Signify has an important role to play in achieving several of the key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

We use six SDGs—good health and well-being, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, and climate action—as our North Star. These goals guide and inform all that we do, both as a company and on behalf of our customers.

Signify is committed to doubling the pace of the Paris Agreement

Global temperatures are rising. The last five years were the hottest ever recorded. In 2015, the Paris Agreement set a commitment to keep the global average temperature well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, and to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Signify aims to double the pace of the Paris Agreement over the complete value chain, both in our operations and by enabling customers and suppliers to advance their positive climate impact with our energy efficient and solar products, systems and services.

Signify is building a responsible supply chain

Our environmental impact includes our own operations, but extends beyond them as well. That’s why we’ve built an ecosystem of suppliers with a supplier sustainability performance rating of 94%.

We have developed several key programs that address the sustainability of different aspects of the value chain, such as supplier sustainability audits and training, responsible minerals sourcing, and supply chain carbon disclosures.

Our packaging does right for the environment

Every year, over 2 billion tonnes of waste is produced globally, and 8 million tonnes of plastic makes its way into the world’s oceans.

Packaging has been a sustainable focal area since the 1990s, and we’ve had a packaging policy in place since 2013. We started phasing out fossil-fuel based plastic from our consumer packaging in 2019, and have eliminated 2.5 million kg of plastic on an annual basis. We continue to work with suppliers to source sustainable alternatives to the adhesives used in our paper packaging material.
