    Philips Lighting Expands Regional Footprint with New Appointments for Africa, Egypt

    Cairo, Egypt – Philips Lighting (Euronext Amsterdam ticker: LIGHT), a global leader in lighting, has announced the appointment of Tamer Abol Ghar as the Market Leader of Philips Lighting Africa. Philips has also appointed Mohamed Abo El-Azayem as the new Country Manager North & East Africa, Philips lighting and Head of Consumer Lighting North & East Africa.  

     

    In his new role, Abol Ghar will be responsible for facilitating the expansion of Philips’ footprint across Africa, engaging both the public and private sectors to launch a new era for Philips lighting systems across the continent.

     

    “I am very excited to get the opportunity to lead the Philips Lighting business in Africa, a very promising market with massive growth potential,” said Tamer Abol Ghar, Market Leader Africa, Philips Lighting. “My main objective is to ensure Philips LED solutions and products are rolled out across the African markets, which aligns with the regional trend to reduce energy consumption rates and contribute to energy efficiency.”

     

    Tamer Abol Ghar joined Philips in 2001 as General Manager, Philips Lighting. He was responsible for overseeing the Lighting Division in Egypt. In addition to his role as the head of the Lighting Division, Mr. Tamer was chosen as Country Manager, running Philips’ operations in Egypt in 2004. In 2008, he became GM for East Africa as part of Philips’ expansion throughout the content of Africa, where he was responsible for expanding Philips’ business in North East & East Africa regions. In 2014, Tamer’s responsibilities grew, when he was appointed General Manager Professional End User Africa, which was quickly followed by his role in 2015 as General Manager of Lighting Systems and Projects in Africa, and thus he became responsible for enhancing the lighting portfolio and increasing Philips footprint within Africa.

     

    On the local level, aiming to enhance its presence in the Egyptian and North East African markets and further expands its operations, Philips announced the appointment of Mohamed Abo El-Azayem as new Country Manager North & East Africa, Philips lighting and Head of Consumer Lighting North & East Africa. Abo El-Azayem will be responsible for overseeing and expanding Philips Lighting footprint in the North East Africa region in line with the company’s global corporate strategy.

     

    “I am very pleased to continue my journey at Philips as the new Country Manager North & East Africa, Philips lighting and Head of Consumer Lighting North & East Africa,” said Abo El Azayem. “My primary goals are to further develop the company’s sales strategy and empower our employees to enable them increase the company’s market share in line with the corporate strategy.”

     

    Mohamed Abo El-Azayem joined Philips in 2008 as the Consumer & Professional Sales Manager East Africa. Working closely with his team, he achieved outstanding results and contributed to the improvement of Philips overall business performance.
