14 December 2020, Hyderabad– Signify (Euronext: LIGHT) Innovations India Limited has partnered with Disha Foundation to enhance the personal safety of frontline COVID warriors in Telangana using UV-C Lighting. Under this initiative, the company is installing 44 of its UV-C Disinfection Chambers across 22 hospitals in the state.
Dr. Vimala Thomas, Director, commenced the initiative today in Hyderabad at the prestigious Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (TIMS). Similar UV-C Disinfection Chambers were installed at the District Hospital, Sircilla and Government General Hospital, Nizamabad as well. These systems were inaugurated by the respective District Collectors of each district, Sri. D Krishna Bhaskar, IAS of Sircilla and Sri. C. Narayana Reddy of Nizamabad.
Speaking at the commencement event, Dr. Vimala Thomas, Director, TIMS said, “We cannot thank the frontline warriors enough for what they have done for the entire nation in the past few months and continue to strive with the same zest. I would like to commend Signify and Disha Foundation for this initiative and their effort to contribute towards the fight against Covid-19.”
These chambers use UV-C technology to disinfect the surfaces of high touch objects such as visitor tags, phones, bags, laptops, wallets, glasses etc. in a matter of minutes depending on the size of the object. The technology used in these chambers has been tested at National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEILD) at Boston University and the laboratory of Department of Materials Engineering at Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to effectively deactivate the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.

Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Signify Innovations India Limited
The drive is a part of Signify’s larger effort to enhance the personal safety of frontline workers like doctors and policemen, and other vulnerable sections of the society such as elderly people in old age homes, by equipping them with efficient UV-C based sanitization systems. This concerted effort by Signify will support over 250 hospitals, 90 police stations and 30 old age homes across 18 cities in the country, positively impacting over one lakh people. By safeguarding them, the company aims to ensure that these frontline workers can continue to do their noble and critical work, for which the country is grateful to them.
Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Subhojit Dey, Executive Director, Disha Foundation said, “We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Telangana government for supporting this cause and to Signify Innovations India for providing the latest technology that will keep our frontline warriors and the elderly in our society safe and healthy.”
UV-C light should always be used in accordance with the safety requirements and instructions to avoid humans and animals from being exposed to it since it can damage their skin and eyes.
