    Biophilic design: what can nature teach us about creating happier & healthier spaces to live and work in?

    Oliver Heath explores the emerging science and style of Biophilic design; discussing new research that demonstrates how by strengthening the human connection with nature we can improve the many spaces we live and work in be that the workplace, education, healthcare and hospitality environments. These improvements can help to reduce stress and aid recuperation to improve mental and physical health plus cognitive performance.

    In this seminar Oliver will explain why this evolutionary design ethos has such universal appeal and the many benefits it can bring. He will clarify the core concepts and patterns behind Biophilic design and how they can be applied to the built environment - demonstrating the range of financial approaches to implementation. He then develops the business case explaining how an enhanced connection to nature creates more desirable spaces to live and work, so by helping to reduce costs - such as absenteeism and staff turnover, whilst improving building outcomes – such as productivity and creativity.

     

    Along the way there are case studies and examples of how Biophilic design is put into practice.
