Somerset, NJ – Each year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) honors select organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency. For the second year in a row, Philips took Product Manufacturer top honors with Partner of the Year. Philips, the global leader in lighting, released a total of 374 ENERGY STAR certified products in 2013, up 40 percent over the prior year, including the world’s first ENERGY STAR certified 100-watt LED equivalent bulb. Just recently, the company announced that its innovative SlimStyle 60-watt LED equivalent bulb – the world’s first flat light bulb – achieved ENERGY STAR certification.
The 2014 Partner of the Year Awards are given to a variety of organizations to recognize their contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through superior energy efficiency. Award winners are selected from the 16,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.
“Philips is helping consumers save money and reduce harmful carbon pollution by producing energy-efficient ENERGY STAR products,” said EPA Deputy Administrator Bob Perciasepe. “This outstanding effort in product manufacturing demonstrates a commitment to reducing our nation’s greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.”
Philips was also recognized for its educational efforts in helping to teach consumers and commercial partners on the value of ENERGY STAR programs, including training nearly 2,000 distributors on the program. The company also launched several campaigns in conjunction with the EPA to help educate retail and commercial consumers on the tangible value of ENERGY STAR certified products for corporate sustainability efforts and their impact on the environment.
“Philips has a proven track record in making quality LED lighting more affordable for consumers and the ENERGY STAR program is a crucial part of our efforts,” said Bruno Biasiotta, president and CEO of Philips Lighting Americas. “ENERGY STAR gives consumers the confidence that they are purchasing a product that lives up to its claims while helping them to do something good for both their wallet and the environment.”
As the world leader in LED lighting technology, Philips has an industry-leading ENERGY STAR certified portfolio which includes SlimStyle, a unique flattened LED light bulb which eliminates the heat sink and high prices associated with LED bulbs. From floodlights to spotlights to decorative candles, Philips offers the broadest range of LED bulbs designed with the latest and most advanced technology available on the market. Offering superior light quality and supporting some of the most popular form factors, Philips LED products continue to usher in a new era in lighting.
