Somerset, NJ – The innovative new SlimStyle bulb from Philips, the global leader in lighting, has just achieved ENERGY STAR certification, enabling it to qualify for instant Energy Efficiency program rebates. Philips has worked with The Home Depot to lower pre-rebate pricing on the SlimStyle bulb to $8.97, making it one of the most affordable 60-watt LED equivalent bulbs on the market. Moreover, after applying available instant Energy Efficiency program rebates, the price of the lamp will be significantly lower. For example, in states such as CT, HI, IN, MA, ME, MI, NJ, NV, RI, UT, WA and Washington, DC, consumers could see pricing as low as $3.97 on shelf at The Home Depot. As of next week, consumers in the state of Maine will be among the first to see prices as low as $1.97 after Efficiency Maine rebates, making the SlimStyle an innovative rival to the incandescent. Designed to meet or exceed ENERGY STAR specifications, SlimStyle puts out over 800 lumens while using just 10.5 watts of power. By comparison, SlimStyle will last 25 times longer than a traditional light bulb and uses 85 percent less energy. The bulb costs just one dollar a year to operate and over its lifetime can save consumers more than $136 in electricity costs alone.
“We have partnered with Philips for years to ensure that we can provide our customers quality, affordable LED offerings for every socket in their home,” said Mark Voykovic, Light Bulb Merchant, The Home Depot. “SlimStyle is a great 60 watt equivalent LED bulb for consumers and the addition of Energy Efficiency program rebates means that consumers can afford a quality bulb that will continue to save them money year after year.”
This latest generation Philips bulb leverages its uniquely flat surface to conduct heat away from the LEDs, eliminating the need for the heavy aluminum heat sinks currently associated with LED bulbs. This innovation helps to reduce the cost and weight of the bulb, while still delivering the omni-directional lighting consumers expect from a traditional 60-watt bulb.
“We revolutionized the lighting industry five years ago with the L Prize bulb and continue to innovate the 60 watt equivalent with SlimStyle, an LED bulb that eliminates the heat sink to achieve a whole new design and price without compromising light quality,” said Bruno Biasiotta, president and CEO of Philips Lighting Americas. “With ENERGY STAR, consumers have the confidence that this product has been tested and will live up to its claims. SlimStyle gives consumers a great way to try LED lighting, be green and save green.”
Philips LED bulbs are also proven in the more demanding commercial sector such as the retail and hospitality markets, where the bulbs are constantly cycled on and off and are often on all day. Since SlimStyle is dimmable and has a durable plastic shell that is less susceptible to breakage, it is ideal for both consumer and commercial applications.
Philips is the leader in LED lighting technology and SlimStyle joins an industry-leading portfolio which includes Philips Hue, the company’s connected wireless lighting offering for the home that empowers users to create and control LED light using their smartphone or tablet and which has more than 100 supporting apps. From floodlights to spotlights to decorative candles, Philips offers the broadest range of ENERGY STAR certified LED bulbs designed with the latest and most advanced LED technology available on the market. Offering superior light quality and supporting some of the most popular form factors, Philips LED products continue to usher in a new era in lighting.
