    Signify and the Lighting Academy hosted the 5th Burlington Sessions, a CoCreate aimed at bringing together world renown lighting artists and designers. 

     

    Our goal is to engage with extreme/ fringe lighting artists and designers – those who inspire us, push the limits of what lighting can do and create a new language of lighting.

     

    The 5th edition happened on June 27th and 28th, 2024.

    Kathi Vandel

    Kathi Vandel (USA)

    President at Light Works, Inc

    Kathi Vandel is the founder of LightWorks Inc, who has a diverse portfolio spanning from convention center hotels to small entertainment facilities, both domestically and internationally. By emphasizing both aesthetic appeal and technical precision, she innovates and finds creative solutions tailored to each client’s needs.

    Erwin Redl
    Erwin Redl  (USA) 
    Owner, Paramedia LLC
    Erwin Redl has won several major public art competitions with installations for the new New York Police Academy in Queens, NY, the San Diego International Airport, CA and the Union Square / Market Street subway station in San Francisco, CA. His work is collected by prestigious national and international institutions, among them the Whitney Museum of American Art New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, the Milwaukee Art Museum and Borusan Contemporary Istanbul as well as by many prominent private collectors.

    Brian Ellsworth is a Lighting Sales Associate at Forman & Associates. Starting off in the electrical distribution industry, his passion for lighting was developed whilst working as a light fixture consultant for set and art departments in major motion picture and TV industry in Los Angeles, USA in the 1990's and early 2000's, leading him to work at Forman.

    Rie Sakata is a lighting designer who has worked with 3 Pritzker Architectural Prize winners.  She developed iconic buildings in Peru and also with other leading architectural offices from Peru and the world, totaling more than 10 million illuminated square meters.

    Founder/Principal Designer - Vortex Lighting

    Anne Militello is the Founder of Vortex Lighting in Los Angeles, USA and has worked as a light designer and artist for theatre, opera's, concert touring stages, theme park projects and light art installations. Being Head of the Lighting Program at California Institute of the Arts and former Walt Disney Imagineer, she is dedicated to a holistic approach of using light as a medium.

    Conor Sampson is a lighting designer and founder of CS Design Inc, who found his way into the world of lighting design more than twenty years ago. Over the years, CS Design has won numerous awards for their architectural and interiors projects ranging from high end residential to institutional and commercial building. With a practise that spans the very large to the very small, functional to folly, electrical lighting and daylighting, CS Design still believes that the best light is subliminal and should move us, without betraying why.

    Jason Lyons is a globally recognized Lighting Designer renowned for his work on numerous Broadway hits such as "On The Town," "Hand to God", "Rock of Ages", and several other Off-Broadway, regional, corporate and architectural projects. In addition to his 2016 Obie Award for Excellence in Lighting Design, he specializes in sustainabile design and promoting accessible arts education.
