Signify Foundation sent 952 portable lights to Lviv, Ukraine, to support emergency lighting needs and Signify commits to over €1 million donation in goods and funding
The war in Ukraine has led to a dire humanitarian situation in the country and at its borders, requiring a robust international response and assistance for those who are displaced or otherwise deprived of basic resources.
Humanitarian lighting has been a key focus of the Signify Foundation. Since the start of the war, the Foundation has been working to identify emergency lighting needs and to mobilize relief aid to Ukraine and its neighbors.
On March 5th, in its first immediate relief response, the Foundation sent 952 portable lights to the western Ukraine city of Lviv to support the emergency efforts of the Ukrainian Ministry of Health. This vital work was done with the assistance of Signify Poland team, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Netherlands and the Philips Foundation. Signify colleagues coordinated identification of the lighting needs to assist in the relief operations. To deliver the lights, which are needed for essential interventions such as mobilization, shelter and healthcare, the Foundation is now working with humanitarian partners on the ground.
On-the-ground lighting needs are likely to change, as the situation evolves. Signify has made a financial commitment of over €1 million in goods and funding to support immediate and medium-term needs and enable further relief efforts. Signify employees have also been supportive, from teams in neighboring countries arranging transfers, meals and accommodation, to the many employees around the globe offering donations directly to the Foundation’s relief efforts.
For the second phase, the Foundation will be working on a medium-term support program for the crisis-stricken region.
In the days and weeks ahead, the Signify Foundation will continue to work with partners on the ground who have the best view of the situation as it evolves. Signify and the Signify Foundation offer our unequivocal support for the incredible efforts of those carrying out humanitarian work in the region and we will continue to do our utmost to assist the organizations and people providing these essential services.
