During one of the first projects that I had the privilege of working on as CSR Manager for Latin America, Signify was to coordinate the delivery of lighting to the homes for children, run by the NGO Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (literally translated as Our Little Brothers).
NPH is notable for creating a loving and safe family environment for children living in extreme conditions. They have five homes in Mexico with more than 720 children, and several others in countries across South America.
NPH is dedicated to improving the lives of children. From the start, they have been helping young people in difficult circumstances by providing them with a safe shelter as well as focusing on nutrition, education, healthcare, protection, professional development and many other areas.
In some cases, local circumstances demand a response to children's needs that are specific to the location, e.g. preventing children from being drawn into criminal gang activities.
Following discussions with the NPH, management team and Signify Foundation, it became apparent that the lighting at the homes could be much improved, while transitioning to energy-efficient LED lighting would reduce the energy bill, allowing much-needed funds to be redirected to other urgent needs.
