    Signify continued to extend its industry-leading IP portfolio with another record year for submissions in 2023, proudly being top 7 of all European-headquartered companies, first in the lighting industry, and climbing to 21st worldwide in the European Patent Office (EPO) rankings.

    EUʼs ban of fluorescent lights & Benefits of TLEDs

     

     

    The European Union’s RoHS1 directive restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, such as the use of mercury in lighting products. In addition, the SLR2 Ecodesign Regulation, in place since September 2021, phases out products that fail to meet efficiency requirements. Accordingly, some common lamps that will be banned this year include:

     

    • T5 and T8 fluorescent lamps.
    • CFL (Compact fluorescent lamps) PL-C, PL-S, PL-T, PL-L, PL-R, PL-Q
    • halogen capsules G9 / G4 / GY6.35

    Signify EnabLED Team attends Light & Building 2024 in Germany

     

    From March 3-6, 2024, the Signify EnabLED licensing team attended Light & Building 2024 at the Messe Frankfurt. Light & Building is one of the world’s largest lighting tradeshows, with over 2,100 exhibitors and over 150,000 people attending this year’s conference.

    Signify welcomes Eglo as licensee to EnabLED Licensing Program

     

    Signify has signed a settlement and patent license agreement with the international Eglo group. Eglo now joins Signify’s EnabLED Luminaire and Retrofit Bulb program, providing it with access to a wide range of LED control, product-level and system-level technologies.

    Patents have been instrumental since the Industrial Revolution for stimulating innovation by providing entrepreneurs with a time limited exclusivity on their inventions, allowing them the opportunity to make a return on their original investment. The inventors must fully disclose their innovations to the public, and once the exclusivity period expires the invention is free for all to use. The patent system is still used by large and small entities or individuals to protect and monetize their intellectual endeavors.

    Signify EnabLED Representatives attend Lightfair 2023 and Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE)

     

    From May 23-25, 2023, members of the Signify EnabLED licensing team attended Lightfair 2023 at the Javitz Center in New York City.  Lightfair is the largest lighting tradeshow in North America, and 2023 is the last year the show will be held on an annual basis, with organizers deciding to move to a biennial approach going forward that will coincide with the off-years of the global tradeshow Light + Building in Frankfurt, Germany.

    Impact of Signify’s Licensing Program recognized: 1500th licensee welcomed

     

    The continuous investment of Signify in innovation and improvements in LED lighting technology is valued by an increasing number of companies worldwide. Recently Signify’s EnabLED Licensing Program for LED-based luminaires and retrofit bulbs welcomed its 1500th license partner since its start in 2008. This also means that 100 new companies have become licensees in the past ten months.


    By participating in the Program licensees can benefit from a rich set of technologies, like Connected LED lighting technology, Filament based LED products and Human centric lighting.
