Philips announces Bosch as a Friends of Hue partner

Lighting and heating can be controlled in sync when at home, remotely when away or automatically to simulate your presence

    December 9, 2015

Eindhoven, The Netherlands – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), the global leader in lighting, announces Bosch as one of its Friends of Hue partners. This collaboration will enable seamless connectivity of Philips Hue lighting with the heating system in the house, to maximize comfort and peace of mind when away from home.

With Bosch and Philips coming together connected lighting and heating truly become one system, and in doing so are able to deliver new ways to interact with your home.  For example, you can create a more comfortable environment by having your Philips Hue lights dim down whilst the temperature in your home rises. If you’re away from home longer than usual, the Bosch Smart Home system will recognize this and activate the lighting to simulate somebody being at home, helping to deter burglars.

“Teaming up with Bosch is an example how we deliver on the promise of the Internet of Things; by improving the lighting experience and helping to deliver value beyond illumination,” says Sridhar Kumaraswamy, Business Leader Connected Home Systems at Philips Lighting. “Consumers need products to work seamlessly with each other to provide new benefits that will help them to feel more comfortable; and this is what our partnership program is about.”

“The underlying reason for our collaboration with Philips is the extensive Philips Hue ecosystem of products and strong functionality in the area of mood lighting,” says Dr. Peter Schnaebele, Head of Bosch Smart Home. “This partnership aligns with the concept of the Bosch Smart Home system very effectively. It is an interoperable solution that connects all home-related Internet of Things devices from Bosch and its partners in one system, with one app, for a smooth user experience.”

Lighting is proven to be the number one interest of the connected home. Philips Hue is the world’s leading connected lighting system for the home. Through its developers program it now has more than 450 third party apps available. It is transforming how light is used in and around the home to stimulate your senses, light your moments or even automate for peace of mind when away from home.

From the beginning Philips has encouraged others to integrate with Philips Hue. From third-party apps and wearable technology, to internet services and connected home products; Philips Hue goes beyond illumination to provide more than just light - to deliver new experiences where the only limit is your imagination.
